Integration of open e-publishing, for production of e-textbooks, in education.
The literature review supports the exploratory research study of an online collaborative open e-publishing system (Pressbooks software) for the production and consumption of open e-textbooks in the Athabasca University Faculty of Health Studies. A quality open e-textbook and e-publishing framework emerged from search-retrieval-check cycles that informed the case study, and the open e-publishing server case reciprocally informed the framework. The researcher’s immersion in the research study provided the triangulation of information towards conceptualizing the framework and examining the integration of the e-publishing ecosystem in education. The literature review resulted in the dominant themes of pedagogical approach, affordance, efficacy, and advocacy. Further research is warranted in policy and leadership related to open e-publishing and open e-textbooks.
